Nearly every retailer creates gift guides as they have proven to be an effective, but extremely overdone holiday tactic. We revolutionized this strategy with Walmart’s Joy Shop, an interactive AR filter that allows users to browse gifts and create their own lists simply via facial reactions. The filter shows users a themed list of this year’s hottest gifts. If users do nothing, the filter simply advances to the next gift.

If they smile, nod, or say, “WOW!” however, it records that selection. After the user selects four gifts simply with their smiles/reactions, the filter presents them with their personalized, curated list and drives them to Walmart.com to purchase. Different filters ran with accompanying Facebook AR ads themed around popular product categories (electronics, toys, home).
